Save the Date by Jenny B. Jones

Published: 2011

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Series: None

Goodreads Summery: Former NFL star Alex Sinclair is a man who has it all--except the votes he needs to win his bid for Congress. Despite their mutual dislike, Alex makes Lucy a proposition: pose as his fiancée in return for the money she desperately needs. Bound to a man who isn't quite what he seems, Lucy will find her heart on the line--and maybe even her life. When God asks Alex and Lucy to scrap their playbook and follow his rules, will they finally say, "I do"?

Lucy has worked hard to build and run a girls home for young ladies who have aged out of the foster care system. But with the economy in a nose dive she finds herself losing her biggest donor. With out the money her girls will be back on the streets in months.

Alex is a former NFL star who is now running for congress. He is behind in the race and looking for the key to help him win. One night at a benefit dinner, Lucy is trying hard to get her money back and Alex is asked to keep her at bay. The two soon find themselves engaged. She is the ticket to Alex’s win and he is her check for her girls home. Will these two find real love as the election draws near?

This was a fun book to read. I enjoyed the way these two characters interacted. I found the idea of the engagement a little far fetched but loved the idea. I liked how Lucy did not care he was rich she had been burned by the rich growing up and Alex was not quite used to not getting his way with the ladies all the time. He soon learned that Lucy was special. There is a side story about Lucy and her family that was interesting but felt a little weird. Lucy never knew her dad and thought he had been someone he was not. She finds out who he really was and even though it was an interesting side story I just was not that interested in it. The character that was Lucy’s grandma was a riot and she had me laughing a lot.

The whole book had lots of great humor and that helped to make it a book that was hard to put down. This is the kind of book that would make a great romantic comedy movie. This is also a inspirational romance and the characters also dealt with some faith issues which added to the greatness of the book. This is definitely a book that leaves you feeling all warm and fussy inside.

 Emmy's Equal by Marcia Gruver

Published: 2009

Publisher: Barbour Books

Series: Texas Fortunes (Book 3)

Goodreads Summery: Get ready for a suspenseful romantic adventure deep in the heart of Texas. Emmy Dane doesn’t want to give up her petticoats and frills for boots and spurs when her family decides to learn ranching in South Texas. Diego Marcelo’s mother tells him God will soon deliver him from his loneliness—but he assures her he has no need of deliverance. . .that is, until Emmy disrupts the entire way of life at the ranch. Can Diego put his jealousy aside before time runs out? And will Emmy admit she’s found her match in the stubborn foreman?

Emmy heads with her family to south Texas because her aunt wants to learn about growing cattle and her Pa has a friend who does just that. Emmy does not even want to go but has no choice and is not happy about it. Diego is the Forman of the ranch they are heading too. He is not a blood relation of the owner but is almost family. Will Emmy find happiness deep in the heart of Texas?

Okay I really did not enjoy this book. I could write more about the plot but honestly this book just was not that interesting to me The story sounded good and the author does an okay job but in the end I was like why did I just read this book? The author tried to tell this story from way to many characters, Emmy, Diego, Diego’s mother and Emmy’s mother. Just to many angles and I feel I never got to know any of them that well. I felt the main characters where not explored enough. The romance was flat they feel in love with out barely even talking to each other.

I did enjoy learning about deep Texas and I felt the author did a good job of bring the time period to life. The story was just interesting enough I did read the whole book but not interesting enough to go back and read the first two books of the series. If you like historical romance you might like this book but read the reviews first or download the first chapter before you buy.

Surrender the Night by M.L. Tyndall

Publisher: Barbour Books

Series: Surrender to Destiny

Goodreads Summery: Step into a breathtaking novel of adventure and romance set amid the War of 1812. During an assault by an enemy sailor, timid farm girl Rose McGuire is saved by the least likely of heroes—a British Naval Lieutenant. Now that he’s wounded, she’ll have to heal as well as hide him. Alex Reed is being aided and abetted by his enemy—albeit an innocent and attractive one. But he might be doing Rose more harm than good if his presence on her farm is discovered. As their love blooms, trouble looms. Will this couple survive another British invasion?

Rose is a young lady who lives on her farm with her aunt and uncle. Her father died at war and her mother not soon after. Because of an event in her past she rarely leaves her farm because she is fearful for her safety. The year is 1814 and America is still at war with the British. The British are into ransacking and terrorizing the country side. The British Navy is helping and we once again run into Lieutenant Garrick and Lieutenant Reed.

Garrick attacks Rose and Alex Reed saves her but ends up to wounded to return to his ship. Rose hides him while he heals. Will these two over come all odds and find love or will the march on Washington cause them to lose everything?

I loved this book! I could not put it down. The author does a wonderful job of taking history and writing a novel that draws you in. Again I loved how she wrote about God in this book. It was so real so powerful. I also enjoyed seeing Noah and Marianne again and how they played a small role in this story as well. Again I was drawn into what the people of that time must have been feeling as their capital city was burned.

I liked Alex from the 1st book so I was excited to read about him in this book. I loved how he had such high honor yet still needed to trust in God.

Rose is faced with marring someone who she does not love but also faced with falling in love with someone she can not have. She to must trust in God to help her learn her Destiny.

The 3rd book of this series will be out later this summer and I can’t wait to read it as well. If you love Historical Fiction then you will love this series!

This book will be released March 1st 2011!

Surrender the Heart by M.L. Tyndall

Published: 2010

Series: Surrender to Destiny

Goodreads Summery: Relive the rich history of the War of 1812 through the eyes of Marianne Denton and Noah Brenin, who both long to please their families but neither one wishes to marry the other. Noah is determined to get his cargo to England before war breaks out, and Marianne is equally determined to have a wedding so that her inheritance can be unlocked and her destitute family saved. When their stubborn games get them captured by a British warship, can they escape and bring liberty to their country—and growing love?

Marianne is a young woman who finds herself engaged to be married to a man she does not love in order to claim her inheritance so that her mom can buy her medicine. She has known Noah since he was a child but only has bad memories of him. Marianne also sees herself as plain and figures no one will ever love her because of it.

Noah is not happy about the engagement himself but follows along with his fathers wishes.  He soon embarrasses Marianne at their engagement party. She is so upset with him that she follows him to his ship where she accidently ends up a unwilling passenger. Will these two find love on the dangerous seas or will the impending war of 1812 pull them apart?

I was not sure if I was going to like this book. I tend to read book era’s from the mid-1800’s and up but I am so glad I read it because I really enjoyed it. The author is a wonderful writer. I found myself pulled in and loving the characters right away. The other thing I loved about this book was the history lesson it provided. She takes the history of the 1812 war and gives it life. I learned a lot about how the war came to be from this book and adding a romance story to it make it so much fun in the process!

The only down side to this book for me was I felt the middle was just a little slow. It was interesting but seemed to drag on until the last 3rd of the book picked back up with the intensity and excitement once again. I also enjoyed the way she wrote God into this story. Sometimes it can feel thrown into the story like it does not really fit but she intertwines it so well in this book it fits perfectly.

By the end of the book I was cheering the American Navy on and feeling proud to have such a wonderful nation and marveling at what my country went through all those years ago to get its freedom. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Sharpshooter in Petticoats by Mary Connealy

Sharpshooter in Petticoats by Mary Connealy

Published: 2011

Series: Sophie's Daughters

Goodreads Summery: Aim for hours of reading pleasure with award-winning author Mary Connealy’s last book in the Sophie’s Daughters series. Mandy Keating, a wealthy sharpshooting widow, is content living in her mountain home and raising her young-uns alone. But how long can she protect herself when thieving outlaws have her surrounded? Rancher Tom Linscott can’t bear to see a defenseless woman in danger. Yet his rescue efforts end up bringing trouble right to her door. Now that they’re both trapped on Mandy’s Mountain, can they learn to live together—or will they die alone?

In the 3rd book we finally get to see how things are going to turn out for Mandy. At this point her worthless husband is dead and she is stuck living in the huge stone house he build on top of a mountain. She stays there because there is a blood war between her and the men who killed her husband. Tom who we where introduced to in the 1st and 2nd books comes to rescue her and her 3 children. Will they get out alive and will Mandy finally find the peace and true love she has wanted?

I will be honest I would not wait to get to this book. I enjoyed the entire series but Mandy was interesting to me from the beginning. I felt so bad for her in the 1st book and sad for her in the 2nd. Now I wanted to see her finally have her turn and the author did not disappoint. The author uses some characters from past series to aid in this book. I found myself wanting to go back and read all about them as well and I hope to here in the future.

Mandy has trouble trusting anyone but herself and you can’t blame her after the way her dead husband treated her. Tom works to show her she can let go of the past and start a new. We also get to see just how good of a shooter she is! I also felt the author did a good job ending the series I enjoyed reading about each of the ladies. I highly recommend all these books and the author.

Wrangler in Petticoats by Mary Connealy

Wrangler in Petticoats by Mary Connealy
Published: 2010
Series: Sophie's Daughters
Goodreads Summery: Ride into the Rockies where love peaks between a tough Texas tomboy and a passionate artist. On her way to Montana, Sally McClellan’s party is attacked and robbed. But then artist Logan McKenzie saves the badly wounded cowgirl who has been left for dead. Can this landscape painter tame the tomboy without breaking her spirit? Sally doesn’t know much about ribbons and lace, but Logan’s presence makes her want to connect with her feminine side. Will this fractured female discover a way to capture the artist’s love—or find herself captured and killed by outlaws?

Sally is the younger sister of both Beth and Mandy. She is the tomboy of the three. She loves to ride beside her dad and wear man’s cloths when she rides etc. The book opens with her being escorted ,riding with a big group heading to Montana to help her sister Mandy out since she is close to having a baby. An unfortunate situation takes place as they are traveling and it leaves Sally badly injured. She is found by Logan and he takes her back to his cabin to heal. Will these two total opposites find love? Will Sally make it to her sister in time for the baby? Read to find out!
After reading the first book
Doctor in Petticoats I could not wait to read this book. I admit to being slightly disappointed. I did enjoy it very much but I found the story to be boring(to me) just a little. Logan is artist and the author spends a lot of time talking about paintings and art and I found it hard to follow and found myself skimming over it at times. I also felt Sally was really not a great fit for the guy and to me they just never meshed. But it was well written and I found the description of Yellowstone easy to see in my head and made me wish I was there with the characters.
I also enjoyed the suspense of the book relative to Sally being sought after due to what happened to cause her injuries. Also in this book we also are still following the story of Mandy and I found myself just wanting to get through this book so I could read the ending to her story. Over all I give it high marks and recommend if your reading the series to not skip this book because you would miss a lot and that would make the 3rd book a little harder to get into.
